Lesson 1, Topic 1
In Progress

Next Steps

The next steps involve making your list. It helps you decide what has to be done, and then you can determine how and when.

Making changes that result from working through the self-reflection tool could take some time, possibly some physical changes to the areas in your home most often used for family child care, and some may require you to make purchases. Take all this into consideration when prioritizing your “to-do” list. There may be some things you want to do immediately, if, for no other reason than they will improve your ability to do your job. For example, if you do not have clear policies and have had difficulties with families for various reasons, it is time to develop some clear policies. This may take time away from your family in the evenings and weekends. You may have to do some research to find the information you need. Then the policies must be adapted to fit your program, and you will need time to introduce the new policies to your families. It may seem daunting, but after it is done, you will have far fewer difficulties with families, making your job easier.

Be kind to yourself. Be patient and cross items off as you complete them. Post your list where you can see it during the day as a reminder of how well you are doing.
